Defensive Handgun I Class

Subjects Covered	This course is one step beyond a CPL course. In this course the student will be introduced to handgun science and accuracy, tactical shooting positions, pistol manipulation under stress, shooting in a 360 degree environment, and shooting while moving. This is a 9 hour course spent entirely on the range. This is not an NRA course of instruction. Range Drills Include: Science / Mechanics of Shooting Accuracy Drills Gear and Use Malfunction Clearing Speed / Tactical Reloads BSA (Balance of Speed and Accuracy) Positions 360 Degrees Moving Off Line of Attack
What to Bring	You will need a minimum of 500 rounds for your pistol. You will need to bring safety glasses and hearing protection (electronic prefered so you can hear range commands). You will need to wear seasonally appropriate clothing. Shirts should have a round collar to prevent the unauthorized access of brass into your shirt. All shooting ranges used by ATHG are outdoor and will take place rain or shine so depending on weather you may need rain gear. We do have pistols and gear to rent if you need. Pistol in a self-defense caliber (.380ACP or larger) 3 Magazines (5 recommended) Holster (magazine holster recommended) No Shoulder Holsters! An open mind 500 rounds of ammunition Cleaning kit Safety Glasses Hearing Protection IFAC/Individual First Aid Kit - Personal Medical kit Seasonally appropriate clothing Sun screen and insect repelant A second pistol and gear is optional (in the event your primary pistol has technical issues)
Prerequisites	The student must be a current United States citizen and meets one of the three following; Posseses a current CPL license Is Active Duty Military or Active Full Time Law Enforcement Officer The student meets the criteria for a CPL in the State of Michigan and provides a letter of recommendation from their local Law Enforcement Agency attesting to the students good moral standing.
Location / Time	This class will be held at one of the local ATHG ranges in Mi. This class starts at 8 am and runs to 5 pm.

Defensive Handgun 1 is the first class in a three class series. The second class in the series (Defensive Handgun II) will continue with BSA drills and movement, but will also move forward into tactics and vehicles. Tactics discussions will not just deal with movement in different directions, but how and when to move. Vehicles will include (but not be limited to) how to shoot from inside and outside of vehicles, shooting through vehicle glass, and taking passengers out of your line of fire.

Defensive Handgun III will continue in the same manor but will incorporate Vehicle and Low Light Level tactics and shooting. These classes are designed to build on each other and while we prefer you take them from us in order, we realize everyone has different levels of training and experience.
